Acupuncture
We offer acupuncture at Reform for a range of different musculoskeletal conditions such as pain, soft tissue injuries and to assist the body’s own healing chemicals to aid in recovery and promote rehabilitation.
Acupuncture originated in China and has been used for over 2000 years to establish good health.
It is thought that acupuncture enhances pain modulation via stimulation of the brain and spinal cord, producing natural pain relieving chemicals such as endorphins, serotonin and melatonin. These chemicals assist the body’s natural healing process.
Abby uses Acupuncture as an adjunct for many of her physiotherapy patients to enhance the care provided. Abby completed her medical acupuncture training with the AACP (Acupuncture Association for Chartered Physiotherapists).
A combination of traditional itonal and westernized acupuncture techniques are used, depending on your needs.
Common conditions acupuncture can be useful to treat include back and neck pain, pelvic pain, pregnancy related back and pelvic girdle pain, tension headaches, knee pain, shoulder pain and persistent pain.
Treatment involves very fine, single use, sterilized, disposable needles being inserted into the body and lightly manipulated to stimulate DeQi.
A number of needles may be used at each treatment and are typically left in position for at least 20 minutes. The effects of acupuncture are cumulative and a course of sessions is likely to be recommended for this reason.
